Finding the X-Factor for Your Pool and Other Topics

If you want your pool to be special, you need to find its X-factor. What is going to set your pool apart from others? What is going to make it uniquely yours? By answering those questions, you start to find your pool's x-factor, its je ne sais quoi in other words. Hi my name is Jenna, and I love my pool. I also love the features I have added to make it unique. Elements like my climbing wall with a diving platform and my retro deck furnishings really make it special. I am going to write about all of that and more in this blog. I hope my tips inspire you to have more fun around your pool, and the mum in me has to remind you to be careful as well. Finding a pool that works for everyone

Blog

If you are looking for a pool that works for everyone, then you need to think about which aspects of the pool are most important to different age groups.

For kids

In addition to compulsory pool fencing, when designing a pool that kids will use you need to think about how they will play or swim in the pool, especially if they are still relatively young and can't swim yet.

A pool that works for kids needs to be relatively shallow so that they can stand up easily while playing. One way to manage this if you want to have a pool that is deep enough to dive into at one end is to have the pool gradate from a shallow depth to a less shallow depth. Generally, for lap swimming you'll want to keep the depth to at least 1m so that your arms don't hit the bottom of the pool as you swim. Another good option can be to have shallow pool steps to allow access, which can also let small kids play on the shallower steps as they get more confident swimming.

For adults

If you want to use the pool for lap swimming, you generally want to maximise the length of the pool. This can be hard on a small block, but there are a growing number of slimline pools to fit into smaller spots in the yard.

Adults also tend to be more interesting in the pool looking good and being a nice place to sit next to when entertaining. There are a growing number of coatings for fibreglass and concrete pools, which create a more sparkling visual effect for your pool. It can also be nice to find a pool design that incorporates a water feature that both looks good and provides a nice sound as a background noise while entertaining.

Older adults

If you have some older adults who will be using the pool, again having slowly sloping steps can be a great way to make access easier. It can also be a good idea to have some grab bars on the side of the pool so that people can grip on the side of the pool. If you have people who are unsteady on their feet using the pool, it can also be good to have nonslip coatings applied to the pavers around the pool, as they can often get very slippery with pool water and any sunscreen spills.

If you are designing custom designer pools that work for your family, it's a good idea to think about who will be using the pool and how they will be using it.
